Have you ever wondered why some people always seem so happy? Or, why certain people have the innate ability to deal with highly stressful situations while others cannot seem to cope with the slightest incident or provocation? While it’s true that we can choose to see the glass as ‘half-full or half-empty’, much of our emotional health is closely related to our body’s ability to produce and balance its neurotransmitters.
Simply put, neurotransmitters are internal chemicals that are necessary for your brain and body to function. Without the proper balance – which may be caused by poor choices in lifestyle or dietary habits – the body is unable to adequately produce and balance these essential chemicals. Imbalance or disparity of your neurotransmitters can result in a multitude of symptoms and conditions such as:
- Cognitive impairment (brain fog, poor memory, poor concentration, lack of focus and motivation, learning difficulties, ADD, etc.)
- Hyperactivity and ADHD in children and young adults
- Sleeping disorders such as Insomnia
- Mood swings
- Depression
- Anxiety and Restlessness
- Panic attacks
- Addictions
- Migraines
- Impulsive behavior
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
- Eating disorders
- Bipolar Disorder
- Hormone Imbalance/Dysfunction
- Libido Imbalance (excessive sex drive/low sex drive)
- Digestive Problems
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- Leaky Gut
- Chronic Pain
- Fibromyalgia
The mind is intricately involved in all areas of our health, including our physical as well as emotional health. Chemical imbalances in our brain can cause us to experience a variety of physical symptoms as well as emotional responses. The key to alleviating stress and to living a healthy life is understanding why we are suffering and finding a path to emotional wellness.
Not all emotional difficulties are centered in the mind. However, our emotional state and mental plane is often a major conduit our bodies use to communicate that something is imbalanced in the body. When we ignore symptom signals and let emotional aspects of our world dominate our health, we fall prey to a downward spiral of health problems.
For example, depression, lack of motivation, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, or other learning challenges may seem like mental problems, but quite often they are rooted in inadequate blood sugar and/or food sensitivities. In these instances, the emotional or mental disruptions manifest themselves chemically and physically throughout the body. The is another reason why gaining complete understanding – followed by balance and ultimately control – of your overall health is of paramount importance.
