Emotional Freedom Technique
Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is a tool for removing unwanted emotions or old mental conditioning from your mind. It’s form of psychological acupressure that promotes the separation of negative emotions from the mind and body. EFT is activated through a series of tapping techniques and phrases that when repeated, help to unlock negative emotions hidden within your body and then “flush” them out of your system.
Did you know that memory consists of elements that are external to the mind? It turns out that our system for memory is more 3-D, or holographic, in nature – bits and pieces of the same memory are actually stored physically throughout the body.
A simple way of illustrating this concept is to think of your body as the internet – a complex, interwoven system of information and data – and your brain as the search engine, seeking out the best bargain memory for, “that time when I dropped mom’s freshly baked pie on the floor…” or, how to execute a particular yoga pose. You may notice that certain physical stimuli – smells, sounds, textures – summon up past memories and also, that someone sharing the exact same experience as you may remember the event quite differently. Musicians or athletes often build “muscle memory” for a specific passage of music or an exercise that has been done repetitively, and likewise, for those people who have lost a limb, it may mean the loss of memory.
This system for memory storage works well until we begin to attach emotion to our memories. When we experience a strong emotion, a chemical reaction takes places in the brain. The body naturally aligns this chemical reaction with the memory and stores the two somewhere in the body. The excess storage of emotion can lead to a variety of health issues, including weight gain, chronic pain, uncontrolled emotional outbursts and even serious illness. Through the practice of EFT you will learn how to release emotions connected with specific memories in a healthy, controlled way and prevent further build-up. EFT will improve your mental wellness which in turn, will help you to better deal with stress that comes into your life.
